With today’s information highway it seems there is an endless supply of resources for you to learn from.  What would be great is if these resources were easy to find.  When you need to study for college or licensing exams knowing exactly where to go would be very helpful.  So we are here to help you study to be a Medical Lab Tech.  We have found some fantastic sites for you to check out when you are studying.  The best part is they are absolutely free!  Read on to see where to find them.

Six Savvy and Free Online Study Resources for Medical
Lab Techs

  1. http://www.cdc.gov – Centers for Disease control and Prevention.  This is a government run website.  It has up to date information and photos.  It also has publications and health and safety topics.  This site is worth a visit  to see what kind of information they have for you.
  2. http://library.med.utah.edu/WebPath/webpath.html – The Mercer University School of Medicine, School of Pathology Laboratory for Medical Education.  This website is for individuals interested in Pathology, which is a big part of the Medical Lab Techs job.  The site has pictures that you can view with just a click of the button.  It should give you a different perspective than the pictures you are viewing in your own classroom or textbook.  Since cells have a way of presenting themselves differently, you can never have enough examples to reference for your studies.
  3. http://www.merckmanuals.com/home/appendixes/
    ap2/ap2a.html
    – This is the Merck Manual website.  The page given in this is for common medical tests.  From here you can navigate your way through lots of information pertaining to the Medical Lab Tech’s job.  With some savvy internet skills you will be able to access a ton of study resources here.
  4. http://laboratorian.advanceweb.com/Student-New-Grad-Center/default.aspx – this is the ADVANCE for Medical Laboratory Professionals web site.  It is completely free to subscribe to.  You just need to log in with a user name and password.  This site offers a lot of articles for you to read.  What we liked most about this site is that it has blogs and forums for you to interact with professionals and students, just like you, and you can learn a bit from them when you have specific questions.
  5. http://www.clinicallabtesting.com/sites/clc.nsf/page/
    students
    – this website has loads of free information.  You can become a member if you would like to.  There is a charge for membership but they do offer a free 30 day trial to see if you like their services.  With out purchasing a membership you are still allowed to reference some of their reference pages.
  6. Your College or Class website - This is always a great resource when you are a student.  Your professor should have on that site the information that they want you to know and how to find it.
